Below are some great sites to become familiar with these programs/programming languages.
TIA - Technical Skills Course - I signed up for this course when I was applying for entry-level positions because I found it covered a lot of the basics and really keys in on how these skills are used in the actuarial industry. They offer a student discount, too. SQL Tutorial - This is probably the best site to learn a lot of the basics for free. SAS Tutorial - I like this tutorial because there are a lot of screenshots (and it's free). Excel VBA Programming - A free guide to help learn the basics of VBA. 222 Excel Keyboard Shortcuts - Most of your work will probably be in excel, so familiar yourself with a lot of shortcuts to get your work done faster. Also, make sure you know how to create pivot tables, use a v-lookup and other various functions. |
Actuarial ForumsActuarial Outpost - Some people can be really intense, but this forum is a really great way to find answers to questions you may have and get additional insight on exams and the profession.
LinkedIn is also a really great way to connect with professionals already in the field and have your questions answered. Two of my favorite groups are Actuary Network and The Entry-Level Actuary. ASM Study Manuals - I've only ever used ASM manuals, but they are definitely very thorough with lots of practice problems (P, FM, MFE) The Infinite Actuary - I have a hard time learning from videos, but throwing this up here since I know a lot of people who have successfully used this resource.
